Balinghai Beach in Boracay is one of the most peaceful and scenic places in the world. Imagine yourself alone with Mother Nature, lying on white sand and bathing under the tropical sun and breeze. You close your eyes and hear the soft roaring of the ocean. This beach has “chillax” written all over it. What’s truly amazing about it is the contrast it brings against Boracay’s world-famous White Beach, a 4-km stretch of white sand. Balinghai is peace: White Beach is party. Balinghai is retreat: White Beach is action.

Also known as Long Beach by locals, White Beach is the primary reason why Boracay is one of the top island-beaches in the world. This is not only for its powdery sand and crystal winds, but also for the all-day, all-night party. After tourists and travelers have tired of the eating, drinking and partying at White Beach, however, they need and deserve a rest. White Beach may make Boracay magical, but White Beach together with Balinghai Beach makes Boracay perfect. The latter offers the quiet, relaxed getaway that White Beach doesn’t. This is why it makes sense to book a room in Balinghai instead of anywhere along White Beach, which is always alive and noisy.

Balinghai Beach is a small bay located at the north end of the island, away from the hustle and bustle of the White Beach, markets, and traffic. You can reach Balinghai either by sea on a wooden sailboat called a paraw or by land on a tricycle. The tricycle is a motorized tricycle-taxi and is the major form of transport inside the island. The back roads leading to Balinghai are not their usual route, which is why fare costs Php100 (USD2.25) from White Beach. Resorts, hotels and bungalows in this part of Boracay are themed to blend with the surrounding environment. Some have no hot water or air-conditioning, but you will be delightfully surprised to find that it won’t really matter once you get there.

Besides the magnificent peace and oneness with nature, this gem is known for its magnificent sunsets and clear water, which also makes it perfect for snorkeling. From this side of the island you can see the sun’s golden rays on the blinding white sand of White Beach just before the sun sinks into the shimmering sea. The view is Nature at its best, perfectly romantic for honeymooners and vacationing couples. A word of caution, however: it may not be perfect for little children since the climb up the resorts is quite steep. Still, the prize scene waiting at the top makes the effort well worth it.

The best place to check in is at the Balinghai Boracay Beach Resort. With warm and friendly staff members, the resort offers four different houses: the Rock House, Tree House, Bath House and Hill House. All these four bungalows promise privacy and solitude as they are nestled amidst surrounding cliffs and lush tropical trees. The feeling and atmosphere is as though you were lost in a tropical paradise, by yourself and away from civilization. Couples can recreate the blissful idyll of the honeymoon too, since the highlight of the day at the resort is a romantic dinner by the campfire.

Boracay is located in Aklan. It is a must-visit island in the Philippines, and the Balinghai Beach, as one of its best-kept secrets, is definitely a must-see spot when you go there.
