Enjoy the Zorb Park, the Newest Fun Attraction in Boracay

As though Boracay were not the most fun island-resort already in the Philippines, a new craze has recently arrived – zorbing. The zorb is a giant ball made of plastic that can hold a human person inside. The objective? Roll down the hill while inside the giant sphere! A crazy way to enjoy a ball, but it is fun, new, and definitely catching on.

More and more Boracay vacationers, both local and foreign, check out the Zorb Park located in Yapak near Puka Beach. It is several minutes away from the world-famous White Beach, but the tricycle ride to the park is worth it since more and more tourists are coming to get dizzy inside the 3-meter high plastic balls.

There are two ways to enjoy it. One is the Harness, in which you are strapped as you roll downhill, and the other is the Hydro, where you roll freely inside the ball filled with, well, water. Is it crazy? It looks like it. Is it fun? Crazily so, apparently. One tourist was seen getting off the ball laughing his heart out with tears. The Harness costs Php300 (USD6.80) while Hydro is Php580 (USD13).

Boracay is world-famous for many other reasons, too. The island’s main attraction is White Beach, a 4-km stretch of fine white sand. It is picture perfect as it reflects the scorching tropical sun and seamlessly blends with the crystal blue water. Bumming along the blinding white sand while drinking local fruit shake and waiting for the sun to set is enough to make the trip to Boracay worth it. Boracay Island is in Aklan province in the Philippines. The shortest route is from Manila, the capital city of the Philippines to Catlclan, Aklan, and then off to Boracay on board an outrigger boat. The usual first stop from there is White Beach.

White Beach is divided into three boat stations, casually called Stations 1, 2 and 3, although boats are not allowed to dock along these stations anymore. The zorbing park is beyond Station 1 and can be reached by boarding a local tricycle, which travelers can pick up at the back side of D’Mall.

D’Mall is the most popular shopping area along White Beach. Tourists find all that they could imagine buying from an island paradise here, including necklaces and trinkets made from local shells. There are also a number of excellent and world class restaurants in it. Beside D’Mall is D’Talipapa, a local wet market. Tourists flock here to buy cheap fishes, crabs, and prawns, either live or cooked.

Along White Beach are also world-class hotels such as Boracay Regency Hotel, Boracay Mandarin Island Resort, Red Coconut Garden Resort, Nirvana Beach Resort and Le Soleil de Boracay. The beach turns into a stretch of drinking and partying at nights, where travelers are treated to a number of live band performances and fire dances. The other popular activities in Boracay are snorkeling, diving, reef walking, horseback riding, island-hopping, banana boat ride, and trekking. And zorbing is steadily gaining much recognition in this list.

The crazy idea of rolling downhill inside a giant ball began in New Zealand, although the original Zorb Team had issued an official letter that the Zorb Park in Yapak is not one of their own and must not be associated with the original park in New Zealand. Nonetheless, people are packing the park in Yapak and enjoying the longest 10 seconds of their lives while in a giant ball rolling downhill. After all, if doing that does not make your tropical vacation both memorable and unique, nothing probably will.
